Seismic rehabilitation and roof repair of 8000 sf multi-purpose room within the San Gabriel Union School. The main lateral resisting system is timber with shear panels, and the roof framing was comprised of heavy timber and diagonal sheeting.
The work included the addition of new steel braced frames to provide lateral strength and stability for the deficient structure. New horizontal braced trusses were designed below the wood diaphragm as the diagonal sheating was inadequate to transfer diaphragm shear to the lateral resisting systems. The connections between the wood posts and the main framing members found to be deteriorated and not having the required strength to meet seismic demands.
Seismic investigation and retrofit was carried out using ASCE 41 Guidelines, for life safety performance level.
