Seismic retrofit of a steel framed historical landmark structure with castiron framing members. The lateral resisting system was moment frame with riveted connection.
The work included the addition of a new mechanical system for ventilation and new fire sprinkler system that need to be seismically braced to the existing structure.
The retrofit solution was based on new special concentric braced frames integrated into the existing cast iron framing members. Special details were developed to connect the new braced frames into the exiting structure.
TES provided assistance during the bidding process and construction and performed structural observations.
